Upashna Ray - Associate

Upashna Ray is an associate with Michelle Johal Professional Corporation.

Upashna is a recent graduate of the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University. She worked as a student-at-law with Legal Aid Ontario’s Criminal Litigation Services, where she regularly appeared in court for routine matters, conducted research on a variety of topics and Charter issues, and drafted correspondence and trial materials. As a student caseworker for the Lakehead University Community Legal Services, Upashna provided free legal services to vulnerable clients in Northwestern Ontario.

Prior to attending law school, Upashna attended the University of Toronto and obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and French as a Second Language. She volunteered as a peer mentor, with the Salvation Army, and at a local soup kitchen throughout her undergraduate degree to give back to the community.

During her articles with Michelle Johal Professional Corporation, she prepared files for trial, reviewed disclosure, prepared Charter applications, drafted disclosure requests and other applications, attended administrative set date courts, interviewed clients and conducted intake meetings with new clients. She is now developing her own practice and taking on new clients.

In her spare time, Upashna enjoys true crime documentaries, cooking, and spending time with her family.
