Michelle Johal

Michelle Johal was called to the ontario bar in 2002. After completing her Honour’s Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto she attended Queen’s Law School with its renowned criminal law program.

Experience

She started her criminal law career in 2005 as an associate with a busy criminal law firm located next to the Scarborough courthouse. She worked in that capacity for seven years gaining considerable experience and appeared at all levels of court in Ontario.

In 2011, she left the firm to start her own practice. She now has Peel-based practice and travels throughout the Greater Toronto Area representing defendants charged with a variety of criminal offences.

Over her career, Michelle has successfully defended individuals charged with offences ranging from theft to homicide.

Achievements

Michelle is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, an active member of the Criminal Lawyers Association, the Peel Criminal Lawyers Association and the South Asian Bar Association.

She is a frequent lecturer with the Law Society of Ontario Continuing Professional Development program and a destination Continuing Professional Development program. She has also lectured at the Criminal Lawyers Association Conferences, the Ontario Bar Association, and the National Judicial Institute.

In 2019, she was honoured to be given the opportunity to become an instructor as part of the Trial Advocacy course, taught to upper year students at Osgoode Hall Law School. She has also acted as an advisor at Ryerson’s Law Practice Program.
